Weight and Load #2 is the second work in a trilogy that explores the fundamental tension between solidity and movement within harmonic structures. Centered around two chords, the piece delves into their seeming immobility while revealing subtle yet continuous shifts—sometimes in unison, sometimes diverging independently.

Inspired by Stockhausen’s Piano Piece IX, it engages with the concept of binary systems, opening sonic windows into uninhabitable spaces and presenting chords as distinct, self-contained worlds.“Weight” embodies immovable mass, the sheer pressure exerted upon a structure. “Load,” on the other hand, represents the dynamic burden—what bends, deforms, or even threatens to break the framework. Throughout the composition, Heiner Müller’s words, “Only strong forms help against pain,” served as a guiding mantra. The very act of writing about chords and structures here stems from another of Müller’s reflections:

“What I analyze cannot depress me.” Whether or not this holds true remains uncertain, but the possibility that analysis could offer resilience provides a source of hope. This second work in the Weight and Load trilogy revisits and reinterprets its predecessor through new instrumentation and technological extensions. The series as a whole examines how the integration of emerging technologies and shifting instrumental constellations reshape the understanding of existing material.
